The Tasmanian Diemen Awards is an event celebrating excellence in the Tasmanian Creative and Craft Industries. With four major categories in Advertising and Communications, Digital, Design, and Print – The Media Super Grand Diemens – described as a “spiky and quite dangerous” brass award is presented to the winner in each discipline.
In its eighth year, the awards were formed from what was the PICA awards, to include the creative industries, and have grown again this year to boast record entries across the bulk of the categories.
A committee of eight people from all corners of the advertising, design, digital and print industries volunteer to organise the entire event so that Tasmanian companies and their work can be celebrated and recognised.
MC was Dr Polly McGee, Welcome to Country was given by Caleb Nicols-Mansell. The Diemen co-chairs are Adam Glover from printer Mercury Walch and Amr Elsayed from creative agency The20. Chair of Judges was Heath Collins, creative director at Cummins and Partners, Melbourne. Main sponsor of the Diemens is Media Super.
Adam Glover said, “The evening was a real celebration. The Diemens brings together the whole creative community in Tasmania. There were 160 people at the event, which was terrific, and we had 200 entries.”
The organisers are now planning an exhibition of the winning entries, of which there were 33 across all categories.
