David "Colour Doctor" Crowther: Myiro and
X Gamut debut on show

David “Colour Doctor” Crowther, who spoke to Print21 on day four of the show, confirmed that the products, which debuted at PacPrint, had been attracting a lot of attention.

Crowther, who owns Colour Graphics Services, is Australian and New Zealand partner for these products.

He said the Myiro-1 and Myiro-9 instruments, which are backed by Konica Minolta and manufactured in Japan, are “very high quality, extremely reliable, and have an excellent repeatability for measurement”, also pointing out that Myiro, which means 'my colour' in Japanese, is doing well globally.

Expanding on the CGS Oris X Gamut technology, Crowther explained that the fully automatic colour management software for extended colour printing on digital and conventional presses, is ideal for reproducing spot and brand colours precisely.

The software features “intelligent” workflow tools in CGS Oris X Gamut and enable printers to leverage the full gamut of the press and ink set so that the images are “brilliantly” printed in detail without the need for special inks, he said.

“With the CGS Oris X Gamut, spot colours can be accurately reproduced by using a standard fixed 7 or 8 colour ink set (CMYK+X). Commonly orange, green and violet are added to CMYK,” he explained, adding that this “considerably” streamlines the production process since no press wash-ups, changeover times are necessary, greatly reducing ink inventory and waste.

The X Gamut is manufactured by proofing and workflow solutions developer, CGS Oris.
