Australian Sign & Graphics Association (Asga) has scheduled a webinar on ‘Employment Law – Living with Covid in the Workplace’ on Thursday 4 November at 2:30pm AEDT.

Warwick Ryan, ASGA’s legal and business advisor.

Covid and the workplace will be the biggest industrial relations topic of the next 12 months, as employers, vaccinated employees and unvaccinated workers work through the myriad issues it throws up. For employers it is a potential minefield, especially if they have staff who refuse vaccination.

In the webinar, Warwick Ryan of Hickson Lawyers, and Asga’s legal and business advisor, will provide guidance on dealing with the variety of issues around Covid and workplace laws.

Asga said there are many factors to consider for getting a business ready for the anticipated increase in Covid cases, as restrictions are eased and borders are re-opened.

These include what the FairWork rules around a business mandating staff vaccinations across states and industries are; what type of penalties apply to those unlawfully terminated for refusing to vaccinate; what a business owner’s obligations are for protecting staff against Covid; and whether or not a business owner can ask for proof of vaccination status.

Ryan will be providing advice on these Covid issues and more, in relation to the sign industry.

The webinar will be moderated by Vernon Kingman from Kingman Strategies, who has 40 years experience managing staff, as the previous owner of the multi-award-winning sign company Kingman Visual.

Julie Rochester, Asga president, urged everyone that owns or manages a sign business to attend the webinar.

“Many would know Warwick from the many years of providing legal advice to ASGA members,” Rochester said.

“Covid has presented business owners with challenges over the past 18 months, and we’ve been fortunate to have Ryan provide advice on it in webinar format to all industry, as well as directly to Asga members via its free IR advice line.

“Having some legal guidance on how we deal with the next stage from someone who has a good understanding of the sign industry is definitely reassuring.

“Anyone who owns or manages a sign business should definitely attend this webinar – Covid is not going to go away, and we need to be on the front foot when it comes to managing its many business implications.”

The cost to attend the webinar is free for Asga members, and is $33 for non-members.
