Axe falls on Apex Press

Apex Press equipment up for auction after the fallen business fails to find a buyer.

The long-established family business, which has been running for over 20 years, and was responsible for producing its own daily Greek newspaper, Kosmos, and lifestyle magazine, Epsilon, hit the skids on 8 February this year when Styash Pty Ltd, which owns Apex, entered liquidation.

According to a spokesman from Jirsch Sutherland Accountants, which is handling the liquidation, there was “nothing untoward” about the business’ demise. “It was just a matter of insufficient turnover, and I think that’s the case in the [printing] industry generally,” he said.

Each of the company’s 19 employees were made redundant as soon as it entered liquidation and have claims currently being processed for outstanding entitlements.

The first move from Jirsch Sutherland Accountants was an attempt to sell the business as a going concern. A failure to find a buyer has prompted an auction at the company’s St Peters premises, to be held at 11am, 24 March. Up for sale is the company’s 64-page tabloid Goss Community newspaper press, five-colour Komori Lithrone 26, which it lists on the website as “newly acquired” and a Kodak Trendsetter News 100 CTP engine.

The spokesman is optimistic that the auction will attract significant interest. “We’ve already had lots of enquiries,” he said.
