Like drupa Caravan Salon took all eighteen halls. The exhibition was run under the new hygiene protocols introduced by the Messe Centre, which includes social distancing, masks and hand sanitising. The German government currently has a ban on large gatherings, but exhibitions are exempt. The numbers this year were well down on last year, when 270,000 visitors came to the show.

All events local and international have been postponed or cancelled since March due to the virus. There will be no in-person Australian print industry events this year. The drupa expo is due to take place 20-28 April. Prior to that, interpack is due to take place in the same location in February, with twice postponed wide format show Fespa slated for March in Amsterdam.

The successful hosting of Caravan Salon will be a boost to event organisers, and to the wider trade. The Messe Centre immediately announced major show Wire and Tube will now go ahead in December, with medical shows already scheduled for November.

"With 107,000 visitors, the Caravan Salon sends an important signal for the entire trade fair industry in Germany and Europe. The world's most important trade fair for caravanning convinced with its well thought-out hygiene and infection protection concept," Erhard Wienkamp, managing director Messe Düsseldorf, said.

“The whole team at Messe Düsseldorf and CIVD, as well as all employees of our exhibitors, turned this trade fair into a fantastic experience with great commitment and lots of passion. The mood at the fairground has been excellent,” Wienkamp said.

"Just as positive," he said, "is the fact that more and more newbies as well as many young families have visited the caravanning trade fair.”
