The WA based printer – one of the big three Perth commercial printers – is replacing a 12-year-old HP Indigo with the new press, with managing director Atish Shah saying some of his agency customers “request Indigo” for their high-end jobs.

The press, supplied by Currie Group, is the first of the new generation HP Indigo 7K presses to be installed in WA.

Shah said, “The WA economy is going well, mining is booming again, we decided it was time for Quality Press to upgrade some if its equipment. We want to be at the forefront of the printing industry, and we want to ensure our customers receive the best possible service, in the quality of product that we produce, and speed of turnaround. The new equipment from HP will help us achieve that.”

Quality Press is a full-service print business, running offset presses, toner and HP Indigo digital presses, and roll-fed and flatbed wide format printers, with 65 staff at the company.

Shah said, “Our first HP Indigo has been a great machine for the past 12 years, but technology has moved on in that time so we went for the upgrade, to the new 7K version. We didn’t look at anything else, we knew we wanted an HP Indigo, we had our previous press as our reference point. We have also always enjoyed a good relationship with Currie Group, who have been there for us when it mattered.”

The new HP R2000 is the latex flatbed printer, and succeeds an HP FB700, which like the HP Indigo, had seen many summers at the Perth print plant.

Adrian Dixon, senior account manager for Currie Group WA, said, “We are delighted to see Quality Press continue its relationship with Currie Group. The installation of the fully configured HP Indigo 7K Digital Press is the next chapter, and brings not only improved productivity and quality, but a whole range of substrates and specialty ElectroInks never before available on the earlier Indigo platforms.

“We look forward to supporting Atish and his team in their endeavours to launch new applications that leverage the extra thick stock capabilities.”

Dixon has been servicing Quality Press for 20 years, he said, “Quality Press is a terrific business and I fondly remember our first Horizon Perfect Binder being installed back in January 2007.

“Our relationship strengthened with more Horizon equipment later that year, and then the introduction of the HP Indigo 5500 – a digital press capable of offset quality.”
