Roland DG Australia continues to explore new markets beyond traditional print, showcasing its latest Dimense DA-640 wide-format dimensional surface printer at an exclusive event in Sydney.
The event generated significant interest across a broad range of sectors – from print service providers to interior design and architecture professionals, as well as those within the education space.
Jessie Parker, managing director of Roland DG Australia, tells Print21 that it has been exciting for the company to dip its toes into segments it previously hadn’t been in, such as architecture.
“When it comes to Roland and its global strategy, it really is about looking at new areas for customers to open up new applications,” Parker explained.
“It is within these new spaces where these creative new applications allow for new excitement, and really pushing the boundaries of what’s expected with print.
“It really is about being able to see that end space for the application, and being able to draw that back through the service providers, and then being able to deliver that to the end consumers.”
The DA-640 is compact and easy-to-use, and delivers high-quality 3D embossed prints up to 2mm in height on a wide range of specialised media.
It uses a unique structural ink alongside standard CMYK, which allows operators to create intricate and detailed embossed effects to complement or contrast the printed artwork.
Dimense specialised media delivers texture and depth to wallpaper, artistic reproductions and many other applications, which is said to provide a unique, engaging finish.
The range includes both non-woven and textile-based canvas versions, as well as scratch resistance for high-traffic environments.
The DA-640's water-based inks are safe for users and the environment. Dimense media is equally eco-conscious – made from a PVC-free base that’s odourless, migration-free, and won’t leach into surrounding surfaces or the air. It also comes with efficient power consumption and energy-saving features like built-in sleep timing and smart wake-up.
The DA-640's combination of newly developed dual printheads, which eject fine ink droplets at high density, and ceramic heaters deliver high-definition, vivid image quality, along with embossing that's strikingly precise and clear.
The DA-640 is designed for easy installation, setup and operation. The 7-inch colour LCD touchscreen is easy to use and gives access to important printer functions – such as printer status and print time.
“It really does allow users to cover a broad spectrum of segments – from interior design and architecture, along with retail, silicon edge graphics, canvas and textile backed products,” Greg Stone, product and marketing manager at Roland DG Australia, told Print21.
“It's pretty broad in terms of the application possibilities, and very unique, as there's nothing really like it for the market, and we’ve seen plenty of interest. So definitely exciting times ahead with some great projects in the works.”
Roland DG Australia is planning similar events for the east coast of Australia in 2026 to help promote the product.
