VISUAL IMPACT: AVERY DENNISON
After five years in development, Avery Dennison used Visual Impact to unveil what it says is a significant leap in sustainable innovation, SP 1504 Easy Apply RS.
The new media is a digital print film designed for environmentally conscious vehicle wrapping and corporate branding.
According to the company, this new solution delivers a 53 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to its PVC-based counterparts. It is also free from chlorine, phthalates, and other halogens, reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The film features Avery Dennison’s proprietary Easy Apply Adhesive, using Air Egress technology to remove air bubbles easily during application for what the company says will be “a hassle-free” installation.
Avery Dennison says the SP 1504 Easy Apply RS also offers “exceptional printability, producing vibrant and exciting images, enabling installers to deliver outstanding results.”
“In our pursuit of sustainability and performance, the SP 1504 Easy Apply RS matches premium PVC-based equivalents in printing and application. Paired with our Sustainable Laminate DOL 6460, it delivers unparalleled aesthetics and functionality,” says Matthew Francis, senior product manager, Graphics Solutions, Avery Dennison. He adds, “This film also works seamlessly with our PVC Cast laminates, ensuring easy integration into existing workflows for a smooth transition to sustainability.”
Francis said, “You’re getting the same performance as you do today from a PVC film. So print performance across all applications of print technologies, digital print technologies is the same. The easy apply RS technology, which is the way that it installs and the ease of application is the same. Our warranty and durability positions are the same. So the peace of mind is that we will back this and to the same level with the same support. And all of that for more sustainable media, same performance at the same price and the price base for us has been kind of critical in this bringing this product to market.
He said, “Performance and price parity for us is has been fundamental in this technology design. And it also opens us up to further expansion using the technology into other products.
“In Australia, the expectation in terms of the end user is exceptionally high. And so we needed to meet all of those as key attributes. We feel that we've done that with this SP 1504 material, which is why we were super excited.”
