PICAs postponed as Covid bites

Dates for the state PICAs are rapidly being reshuffled as the continuing Covid crisis impacts on events around the country.

Last Saturday’s WA event had to be postponed, as has the rescheduled event planned for Victoria tomorrow. Organisers are still hopeful that the SA PICAs, scheduled for 26 August will go ahead.

The New South Wales event has already been rescheduled to 17 September, but there is no certainty of that as the virus shows no signs of slowing down in Sydney, although by then restrictions should have been eased, if the six million vaccination schedule is met.

New dates are currently being sought for the West Australian and Victorian events as the situation in those states appears to be more stable, however there are still some logistical issues with with venues working around the clock to try and accommodate a raft of event postponements, and interstate travel restrictions for presenters and events teams still changing almost daily.

Organisers are now looking at various options for the remaining PICA celebrations, which feed into the National Print Awards, with all PICA gold winners going before judges to find the national champions. The Nationals - print's night of nights - were due to take place on 30 Sept during PacPrint, which has now been postponed. A new date is soon to be confirmed for the NPAs, organisers say.

The Queensland PICAs did take place, they were held prior to the latest lockdown, with ColourChiefs, Fast Proof Press, Kuhn Corp and SurePrint topping the leaderboard; each coming away with three golds.
