Simon's career in the local industry spanned four decades, and he was an active member of the print community, having been a familiar face at key industry events over the years.

His consistent colourful attire was an extension of his personality, and was, says LIA president Mel Ireland, a true friend and supporter of so many in the industry. She said, “He was fun, passionate and a great role model and mentor to many apprentices and people starting out into the industry. He was well-respected by his peers, staff and clients.”

He started in the industry in 1979 as a costing clerk/estimator for Simpson Halligan. His experience in estimating and production progressed at William Brooks, and at Printcraft. He then became production manager for a number of print companies, including InPrint and Platypus Graphics, after which he became co-owner and production manager of JT Press.

For the past 12 years, Simon had been the production manager at Salt Design, working alongside his life partner to evolve the existing graphic design studio into a digital and wide format print business – The Print Village.

His farewell service and celebration of life was held last week, and is available online for those who could not attend. The service will be streamed online and recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
