The development follows Canon’s acquisition of Edale in 2022 and its recent showcase of industrial packaging solutions at drupa. For printers and converters in Australia and New Zealand, it means they can now access Canon’s full suite of high-volume digital production inkjet systems together with flexographic equipment from a single point of contact.

Canon Production Printing MD Craig Nethercott said the expansion strengthens Canon’s position in Oceania’s commercial and industrial printing markets.

“This change means we can supply Edale’s highly regarded presses to converters as well as printers looking to diversify into the growing label and packaging market, and fully support them with our expert service teams.”

The expanded portfolio is expected to benefit businesses that operate in environments where both inkjet and flexographic technologies are required, such as book printers who combine high-volume inkjet for book blocks with flexo or short-run systems for covers.

Technology in focus
The Canon LabelStream LS2000 is a five-colour (CMYK plus white) inkjet digital label press designed for industrial-scale production. Printing at speeds of up to 40 m/min with a maximum print width of 340mm, it combines high productivity with water-based ink technology. This makes it suitable for converters needing to meet demanding production volumes while aligning with environmental and regulatory requirements for sustainable packaging.

The Edale CartonLine is Edale’s single-pass flexographic solution engineered for folding carton manufacturing. It integrates printing, cutting, creasing and embellishment into a streamlined workflow. With advanced automation and fast makeready, it reduces waste, labour and footprint while maintaining high print quality across substrates up to 700 microns. Applications span cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and premium food packaging, where efficiency, consistency and reduced time-to-market are critical.

The Edale LabelLine is designed for high-end label converting, offering web widths of 350 mm, 430 mm, 510 mm and 570 mm, and capable of handling substrates from 12 to 450 microns. Its modular build supports multi-application production, with options for additional print stations, embellishment modules, finishing units and specialist technologies to be integrated post-installation. This flexibility allows converters to adapt capacity over time while reducing waste, shortening setup and boosting profitability.

Canon will showcase these solutions at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona (16–19 September). Visitors to the Canon stand (4E07) will be able to see the CartonLine, the newly developed UVgel Factory for Labels, and a virtual demonstration of the LabelStream LS2000, with Craig Nethercott available to discuss the expanded Oceania portfolio.
