Jet Technologies has appointed Darren Currey to its Print Division, bringing more than 30 years of experience supporting Australian and New Zealand customers across the print, packaging and label industries.
Currey joins Jet Technologies following a career that has spanned some of the printing industry's most recognised suppliers and key market segments.
Commencing at Spicers Paper in 1995, he spent more than two decades building expertise across commercial print, fibre packaging, flexible packaging and pressure sensitive labels.
As Spicers’ national narrow web manager, he played a key role in establishing the company’s Pressure Sensitive Label portfolio, introducing the business and its customers to a range of international supply partners that remain ongoing today.
Most recently, Currey spent seven years as APAC sales director for Innovia Films, specialising in flexible packaging, pressure sensitive labels and unsupported BOPP films across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
For Currey, the appeal of joining Jet Technologies was the company's reputation within the industry and its approach to supporting its customers.
“I've known Jack Malki and Jet Technologies for many years and have always found them to have a strong and reliable reputation throughout the market,” said Currey.
“The opportunity to join a dynamic company with a culture of doing things different from the rest was something that really appealed to me.”
Throughout his career, Currey has worked with organisations focused on building strong market positions in highly competitive industries. Through this experience, he has developed a deep understanding of how innovation, product quality and commercial partnerships can create meaningful differentiation and long-term success.
“Jet Technologies has built a strong position across the industries it serves, and I'm excited to work with customers to identify opportunities, differentiate their offering to support long-term, sustainable growth,” he added.
Currey joins Jet Technologies at a time when the print and packaging industries continue to navigate supply chain uncertainty, changing sourcing strategies, and evolving environmental and sustainability expectations.
“Events over recent years have highlighted the importance of supply chain flexibility,” Currey explained.
“Customers need confidence that they have options available and can respond when conditions change. Having access to the right products, suppliers and expertise will continue to be critical
"Additionally, there is no shortage of discussion around the environment and sustainability, but there can often be conflicting messages about the best path forward.
“The industry will continue to benefit from greater clarity and consistency, helping businesses make informed decisions around packaging materials, recyclability and environmental outcomes.”
According to Jack Malki, director of Jet Technologies, Currey's appointment further strengthens the company's capabilities across two important growth areas for the business.
“Darren brings a wealth of experience across pressure sensitive labels and flexible packaging, along with a deep understanding of the challenges facing our customers,” said Malki.
“His industry knowledge, technical expertise and customer-focused approach will be a valuable addition to the team as we continue to expand our offering and support customers across Australia and New Zealand.”
In his new role, Currey is looking forward to helping customers explore opportunities across both the pressure sensitive label and flexible packaging markets, particularly as more businesses look to diversify their capabilities and offerings.
“Many label printers are exploring opportunities in flexible packaging in some form, while others are just beginning that journey," Currey concluded. “Having worked extensively across both sectors, I look forward to helping customers develop solutions that support their needs today and position them for the future.”
