PACPRINT NEWS: RICOH

Ricoh used PacPrint to highlight some new innovations, the increasing number of applications it is developing systems for, and its drive to enable fibre-based print to replace plastic-based products.

Among those was the Ricoh Auto Colour Adjuster, which it was launching at the show, which simplifies colour management for printers. Henryk Kraszewski said, “Many printshops don't ever calibrate, and yet they expect consistent colour out of the machine. This takes the complexity out of colour management.

“So essentially, what you can do is you print a couple of sheets, you run it through the Auto Colour Adjuster, and then it sends out a message to see profile to your controller, and then it adjusts, and you're printing perfectly within a few minutes. There is no expertise required, it is dead simple.” Auto Colour Adjuster can work with one printer or with multiple printers.

Kraszewski said, "The other really cool application is reprints of jobs people walk in the door with. It will enable you to print correctly, or to match the customer’s print if it wasn’t great but that is what they want, you will have a very close match to what the customer wants.

"So it saves hours and days of work. There's no tweaking of curves, And that sort of task of trying to colour correct the file requires a colour expert. This requires no expertise whatsoever. “

The Auto Colour Adjuster is device agnostic, it can work with any branded cut sheet device as well as wide format.

Ricoh was also showing an application where it had converted a plastic-based printed product, gift cards, to a fibre-based version, with its cutsheet Pro C9500 printer running 800 micron card. Krawzeski said, “Ricoh is committed to sustainable print, the fibre-based gift card meets that commitment. And this is from a digital printer that can also print down to 40gsm.”
