Peterkin introduces two new sustainable paper collections from German paper mill Gmund, Les Naturals and Mother Earth, expanding its packaging and print materials range with recycled and alternative fibre stocks.

The two collections are positioned by Peterkin as options for packaging, branding and print applications requiring textured surfaces and environmentally focused production.

Les Naturals is a 330gsm card made from 100 per cent recycled plant-based waste paper, produced at Gmund Paper’s French mill, Cartonnerie Jean FG. The stock is unbleached, resulting in sheet-to-sheet colour variation, and carries the German government’s Blue Angel eco-label.

The range is available in eight colours: Anthracite, Chocolat, Calcaire, Ivoire, Olivine, Opale Rosa, Rubis and Saphir, in A4, A3, SRA3 and flat sheets, along with printed and unprinted pockets, sleeves, placecards and tags.

Peterkin says Les Naturals supports digital CMYK, white, gold and silver printing (stock dependent), as well as blind embossing, letterpress and hot foil press. It can be duplexed to 660gsm and is suitable for traditional, digital and laser die cutting and scoring.

Due to the recycled and unbleached nature of the paper, Peterkin advises that texture and colour variations are inherent, and recommends avoiding solid digital ink coverage and very fine typography. Sample prints are encouraged.

The Mother Earth range: 50 per cent alternative fibres including grass and grain waste, blended with FSC-certified wood pulp

The Mother Earth range uses 50 per cent alternative fibres including grass and grain waste, blended with FSC-certified wood pulp. Natural dyes are used to colour the pulp, with visible plant fibres creating a tactile surface on both sides.

Mother Earth is supplied as a 350gsm card in four colours: Apricot, Curcuma, Grain and Hay, and is available in the same sheet formats and converted products as Les Naturals.

According to Peterkin, the range supports digital CMYK, white, gold and silver printing (stock dependent) and is suited to blind embossing, letterpress and hot foil press. It can be duplexed to 700gsm and supports traditional, laser and digital die cutting, though the company notes the surface texture may affect crispness.

Peterkin advises designers to avoid heavy digital ink coverage and fine detail, and recommends hot glue for assembling pockets and sleeves. Sample printing is also encouraged.

Peterkin says both collections reflect its focus on sustainability, with the company stating the ranges demonstrate how alternative fibres and responsible production can be applied to premium print and packaging materials.
