Acropolis Printers Hella has boosted its Athens newspaper printing facility by installing a second Screen Truepress JET 520NX.
Acropolis Printers Hellas is a subsidiary of the Miller Group and specialises in digital printing for newspapers, currently producing 60 local and 30 foreign titles at its Athens facility.
This strategic investment marks another step in the Group’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, reliable, and cost-effective digital printing solutions for the Greek newspaper market and a deepening partnership with Screen.
“Newspapers in general are doing it tough in our region and around the world, but Miller Group – and Acropolis Printers Hellas in particular, have demonstrated clearly that ‘thinking outside of the square’ and changing the rules digitally, can open new market opportunities and profitable growth,” said Peter Scott, managing director of Screen ANZ.
“Australia and New Zealand’s rich multi-cultural heritage suggests opportunities for distributed multi-lingual publications and our vast geographic spread could benefit from sustainable, localised digital delivery of content files for digital printing closer to the target consumers.
“I congratulate Miller Group and Acropolis Printing Hellas for their innovation, foresight and success.”
The decision to install an additional Truepress JET 520NX was driven by Acropolis Printers Hellas’ positive experience with their previous Screen digital inkjet press installations, their reliability, exceptional printhead technology, intuitive software, and outstanding technical support.
“Our experience with Screen inkjet technology at our Malta and Athens locations has been outstanding,” said Mark Miller, chief logistics, press and print operations officer with Miller Group.
“The Truepress JET 520NX’s have proven themselves exceptionally reliable, while marking a notable jump in quality and speed over our older printing presses, which made reinvesting in two units an easy decision.”
The Greek newspaper industry depends on reliable logistics, and the ability to print on-demand newspapers quickly.
It’s a market where printed newspapers are needed seven days a week, year-round, with distribution to many islands where flights and ferries need to be carefully coordinated to ensure timely delivery.
Any delays in print production could result in costly disruptions throughout the entire supply chain.
This is where the robust engineering and smart design of the Truepress JET 520NX high-speed inkjet press excels, delivering consistent day-to-day performance without stoppages or breakdowns – all at production speed as high as 180 metres-a-minute.
Screen’s Truepress JET 520NX meets the demanding requirements of Greek newspaper printing, delivering digital printing efficiency with offset-level quality. Its pigment ink technology produces vibrant colours and sharp text with minimal show-through even on thin papers between 42-45 gsm.
The press’ user-friendly interface allow operators to easily manage multiple jobs and adjust colour optical density – essential for consistent high-quality output tailored to client preferences.
Installation of the second Truepress JET 520NX at the Athens site was completed seamlessly during the critical 2025 holiday period, ensuring Acropolis Printers Hellas’ readiness for increased production demands.
“For all our operations as we continue to grow, Screen’s service and support teams have been instrumental,” Miller added.
“During the second installation, their engineers helped optimise our colour management, improving print quality and efficiency across both production lines.”
Looking forward, Acropolis Printers Hellas is exploring new market opportunities enabled by the expanded capacity and reliability of the Truepress JET 520NX.
Potential avenues include books-on-demand, university publications, pharmaceutical materials, and government communications, all significant growth sectors in the Greek commercial printing market.
“The additional Truepress JET 520NX positions us for future growth. We are confident in our new printing technology, which has already proved to be an effective solution for new markets and applications,” Miller concluded.
“More importantly, the team knows we can rely on Screen’s existing experience and expertise to help guide us as we explore these new possibilities.”
