Durst Group has taken the wraps off its latest digital innovation at Labelexpo Europe 2025 in Barcelona, with the world premiere of the Tau G3 platform.

Available in two configurations – Tau G3 Core and Tau G3 Peak – the new system sets out to redefine productivity, ease of use and print quality for converters operating in the fast-moving labels and flexible packaging sector.

Thomas Macina, director of global sales labels & flexible packaging at Durst, said: “With the Tau G3 platform, we are opening the next chapter in digital labels printing. Our customers benefit from maximum print quality, easy operation, integrated software solutions, and a platform designed for reliability and future-proof performance.”

Technical leap

The Tau G3 delivers 1200 x 1200 dpi native resolution, with speeds of 61 m/min on the Core model and 80 m/min – expandable to 100 m/min – on the Peak. Print widths range from 244 mm to 510 mm, supporting a wide variety of substrates, from paper to films and foils, between 20 and 500 µm. Ink options include CMYK with extended gamut Orange, Violet, Green and White, and curing is available in both UV and LED versions.

The platform, based on the proven Tau RSC architecture, introduces ergonomic design updates, improved serviceability and enhanced reliability features such as Durst ARC (Automatic Register Control) and Durst MEP (Material Edge Protection). In addition, Durst HAWK AI can be integrated for closed-loop nozzle correction and automated colour register control.

Martin Leitner, director of product management, said: “By combining high-resolution inkjet, intelligent automation, and flexible ink options, we are giving converters the tools they need to handle both today’s short runs and tomorrow’s high-volume demands – all with maximum reliability, minimal complexity and exceptional performance.”

Hybrid and ecosystem integration

Alongside the Tau G3, Durst is also showcasing its hybrid Durst-Omet KJET press, combining inkjet with conventional flexo and inline finishing. The Durst Tau ink system – with UV3 inks for adhesion and durability and LED inks for energy-efficient curing – underpins the company’s sustainability drive. All presses integrate with the Durst Software Suite, including Workflow Label and Durst Analytics, to deliver a fully connected production environment.

CEO and co-owner Christoph Gamper said: “With more than 550 high-end Tau systems in the field and over 4,200 active inkjet installations worldwide, Durst is the leading force in digital production. The Tau G3 production platform is the logical next step – setting new benchmarks in innovation, in ecological and economic leadership, and in the integration of AI.”

The Tau G3 platform enters full commercial release in Q2 2026, with beta sites already in operation. Durst will continue to support its broader portfolio, from the entry-level Tau 340 RSC E through to the high-end Tau RSCi and hybrid KJET and XJET systems.
