DuPont Cyrel Flexographic Solutions’ Cyrel FAST thermal platemaking workflow records a 20 per cent reduction in energy use compared with traditional solvent-based systems, following certification from GreenCircle.
The certification, issued by GreenCircle Certified, verifies the system’s energy savings based on a 96-hour testing cycle comparing thermal and solvent platemaking workflows. According to the analysis, Cyrel FAST meets the requirements for Certified Energy Savings recognition with 20 per cent lower energy consumption.
The system uses a solvent-free process, removing the need to handle, distill and dispose of washout solvents. Tucker Norton, vice president and general manager of Printing & Films at DuPont, said, “Cyrel FAST has redefined what sustainable responsible platemaking looks like through its completely solvent-free process. Not only does the system simplify operations, but by eliminating the need to handle, distill, and dispose of washout solvents, it also significantly reduces environmental burden while providing a cleaner, safer working environment.”
DuPont said its life cycle assessments show Cyrel FAST reduces volatile organic compound emissions by up to 99.8 per cent compared with conventional solvent workflows and lowers global warming potential by 48 per cent. The company added that the system can deliver up to 75 per cent faster platemaking and more streamlined workflow steps.
The company said the certification provides converters and brand owners with assurance of reduced operational energy use while maintaining output.
