Flint Group Digital Xeikon is extending its subscription-based digital label production model, Ecolyne, to a global audience, positioning it as a more accessible route for converters and commercial printers to enter or expand digital label production.

The model allows customers to access digital label printing capacity through a fixed monthly fee rather than purchasing a press, avoiding upfront capital expenditure. Flint Group Digital Xeikon manages installation, service and uptime, enabling users to focus on production and business growth instead of equipment ownership and maintenance.

Ecolyne is a dry-toner digital label press designed for food-safe label production and a range of mainstream applications. It offers 1200 dpi resolution, a 330 mm web width, print speeds of 25 m/min, and supports a range of label substrates with different face stocks. The system includes five printing stations, CMYK+White.

The approach comes as the label market shifts towards shorter runs, faster turnaround times and greater production flexibility. It is aimed particularly at smaller converters and printers seeking to enter digital label production, or expand their digital offering, without taking on the financial and operational demands of a conventional capital purchase.

Frank Jacobs, senior product manager at Flint Group Digital Xeikon, said the model responds to demand for a different commercial approach. “Many printers want to enter or expand digital label production, but they do not want to tie up capital in ownership from day one. With Ecolyne, they gain access to industrial digital label capacity through a fixed monthly fee, with Xeikon taking responsibility for installation, service and uptime.”

An early example of the model in use is FG Larsson, a fourth-generation Swedish family printing business based in Örebro. The company introduced Ecolyne to bring part of its food-label production in-house, in response to smaller, more urgent orders and increasing pressure on lead times, without committing to a conventional press investment.

FG Larsson selected the model as it combined toner technology the company preferred with a commercial structure offering cost clarity and reduced financial exposure. Within the first weeks of operation, the company reported improved flexibility, faster responses to customer requests, and a stronger base for local short-run food-label production.

Magnus Lamke, owner of FG Larsson, said, “For us, the key advantage was that we could bring food label printing in-house without tying up capital from the start. The monthly fee gives us predictability and peace of mind, while the press gives us the flexibility and quality we need to serve local customers faster.”

The company said the FG Larsson case reflects Ecolyne’s role in lowering the threshold for digital adoption, while maintaining the reliability, compliance and print performance associated with industrial production. It positions the model as an alternative to treating digital label printing as an all-or-nothing capital investment.

Ecolyne was first introduced in the Asia-Pacific market in late 2025. As production capacity expands, Flint Group Digital Xeikon is now making the model available worldwide.

To support the rollout, the company will host two events in June: Xeikon Innovation Days Lier 2026 on 11 June at its headquarters in Lier, Belgium, and Flint Group Digital, Xeikon Innovation Days 2026 on 16 June in Elgin, Illinois, USA, where customers can see the model in operation and explore its applications.
