1st iGen3 goes into New Zealand

The company specialises in digital production across a whole range of applications, and has worked with different generations of Xerox digital printing equipment. The iGen3 was purchased to enable Excel Digital Print to work with larger run lengths, without the need to shift over to offset production.

Steve Mathews, director at Excel Digital Print, says the new Fuji Xerox press will help his company meet the diverse demands of his customer base. The company does not specialises in any particular area, so it must be prepared to work on a wide variety of jobs, covering everything from colour-critical print to large volume multipage planning documents.

“The New Zealand market is relatively small so we do not have the luxury of being able to specialize in one work style,” says Mathews. “My sales team are constantly trying to expand the boundaries of what we have done to date by accepting all manner of challenging work requested by customers.”

Mathews says his business chose the iGen3 because of its print quality, which he compares to that of offset. He claims it has allowed Excel Digital Print to claw back a lot of the work that was traditionally outsourced to other commercial printers.

“I believe that with more of these presses being installed in New Zealand there will be a greater shift of short run jobs back to digital presses,” says Mathews. “We have found the productivity and the quality to be noticeably superior to our previous print engines and I feel this is indicative of the future digital printing trends here in New Zealand.”
