All aboard to find out everything you wanted to know about 3D Printing but were afraid to ask. In association with 3D Print pioneers Melissa Fuller and Grace Turtle of Three Farm, and JDA Print Recruit, Print21 will be holding the first of a planned five-city series of seminars, "3D Printing - What's in it for me?"
This is the burning question for traditional print businesses as they see 3D Printing getting airplay all around them producing everything from body parts to jewelry. Even the mighty drupa exhibition in Germany, 2016, has added a 3D Printing area saying it is “spreading like wildfire” and: “3D printing not only supplants, reconfigures and leverages traditional processes, but accelerates innovation by virtue of the fact that an instant creation of solid prototypes and tangible templates has numerous benefits.” This month’s Ipex also has a 3D printing feature and Print21 will be reporting all the latest developments live from the show floor.
The inaugural 3D Printing seminar will be held in Sydney from 6pm to 9pm on Tuesday May 13th, at Level One of the Chatswood Club, 11 Help Street, Chatswood. With plenty of underground parking plus excellent public transport access from all directions, The Chatswood Club is a three-minute walk from Chatswood train station and bus interchange.
Main presenter is Melissa Fuller (pictured) who has hosted many workshops on 3D Printing, including a partnership with Macquarie University and will bring along a Makerbot 3D printer for live demonstrations. Mel is going on a study tour of the USA shortly after the Sydney event, so the Melbourne seminar is scheduled for August with Brisbane and perhaps Adelaide and Perth to follow. Topics to be covered include:
- Types of 3D printers and their applications
- Materials that can be 3D printed
- Business opportunities and case studies
- Consumer-vs-Industrial 3D
- Live 3D printing demonstrations
- Converting 2D designs into 3D objects
- Separating the hype from the reality of 3D
- 3D products relevant to the printing industry
- Online 3D printing services
- Adobe’s move into 3D
Print21 Publisher, Patrick Howard, comments, “The thing about 3D printing, at least in the printing industry, is that everybody is aware of it but nobody knows how to apply it as part of their business. The objective of these seminars is to inform, introduce and suggest ways that printers of all disciplines can ride the wave of 3D printing services.”
Leading 3D print equipment and software manufacturers are being approached to partake and these include suppliers of Stratasys, Objet, Makerbot, McCor, Zcorp, AutoDesk, Adobe, EOS, Ultimaker and others.
Co-organiser Andy McCourt says, “We will also be speaking with suppliers of existing 2D CAD, AEC and GIS technologies as one market that has emerged in Europe and the USA is 3D printing of architectural designs and engineering prototypes. This will probably be the most comprehensive knowledge-gathering event in 3D printing for 2014 – and it is tailored for printers.”
The three-hour seminar includes all refreshments and finger food; a take-home information pack and is limited to 80 attendees. The cost is $145 or $99 for full-time students.
An online event booking site will be established shortly with Eventbrite to make ticketing easy. You can avoid disappointment by joining the wait-list and registering your interest by emailing: editor@print21.com.au. Please put ‘3D Printing Seminar’ in the subject header.
