ADAPT puts in a winning Melbourne show

The digital awards proved to be of the same high standard as last year. According to organizer Andy McCoourt the entrants went to a great deal of trouble to extract the maximum aesthetic appeal using digital imaging technologies.

  • The Epson award for digital imaging exellence went to
    Paul Foley of Spit Junction, NSW for ‘Glade of trees’
    This remarkably vibrant image was captures on 6 x 17cm transparency film using a Linhof camera, then scanned on an Imacon Flextite 646 scanner, digitally enhanced and printed on an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 printer with Epson enhanced matte paper. Paul wins the main trophy plus an Epson Stylus Pro 4800 printer and consumables to the retail value of $5,000.

  • The Canon award for digital photographic reproduction was won by 80 year old Charles Cowell of Camden, NSW for ‘The Charge.’
    A very moving image superbly executed, it was taken on a Sigma SD10 digital SLR and is in fact a montage of two images. The sand dunes are in Tasmania and the horseman was taken on Australia Day 2006. Printed on Moab paper supplied by Giclee Media Supplies, on an Epson 4800 profiled with a Gretag Macbeth Eye One. Charles wins a trophy plus a Canon EOS350D camera and zoom lens.

  • The DES award for digital print making innovation was also won by
    Paul Foley for ‘Glade of Trees.’ (pictured)
    He wins a DES Master Printmaking course and media to the value of $1,500.

  • Digital reproduction magazine young achiever award & DES digital imaging young achiever of the year award went to
    Tim Quirk of Richmond, Victoria for his photo montage.
    The two young achiever awards were combined and Tim Quirk (30) came out winner with his striking montage. Images were captures on a Nikon F90 with 105mm lens and scanned on an Epson Perfection 4180 scanner and printed on an Epson 2100 A3 printer. Tim wins two trophies plus a DES Master Printmaking course and media to the value of $1,500 plus from Digital Reproduction, Corel creative software to the value of $1,000.

    Five judges each marked the entries out of ten for creative merit and ten for technical merit. Judging was conducted by:

    David Crowther & Sarah Weightman – of DES Pty Ltd

    Four Epson customers win back price of their printers in consumables

    The last day of the ADAPT exhibition saw the drawing of four winners in Kayell’s $20,000 media give-away. Between April 1st and June 30th, all purchasers of Epson professional inkjet printers from Kayell have been automatically entered.

    Kayell director Robert Gatto (pictured left) and Epson Australia’s Pro Graphics business manager Craig Heckenberg (pictured right) collectively drew the prize winners at 11:30am on Saturday 15th July, on the Kayell booth at the ADAPT exhibition.
  • Rowan Thomas of Melbourne wins $1,600 in Epson media consumables. He purchased an Epson R2400 printer.
  • Terry Rea of Picture Perfect Productions, Long Jetty NSW wins $ 3,000 in Epson media consumables. He purchased an Epson SP4800 printer.
  • Bob Miller of Canberra University School of Architecture & Design wins $5,000 in Epson media consumables. He purchased an Epson SP7800 printer.
  • Gary Evans of Xerox Business Centre, Port Macquarie NSW wins $10,000 in Epson media consumables. He purchased an Epson SP9800 printer.
