Adobe experts have designs on Melbourne in August

As a guest speaker at the conference held on 30-31 August, Melbourne, the business development manager, cross media publishing (pictured) from America has been with Adobe since 1996.

Throughout the two days, Edell will give two presentations: the first will be in conjunction with New York-based computer graphics teacher, Sandee Cohen, where the two will provide tips and techniques for using InDesign. Edell's second presentation will focus on workflow and collaboration in Acrobat.

Stepping outside the office and meeting others is one of the most important parts of the conference, according to Edell. "Creative people can learn from each other, and often they only know what their employer tells them to do," she said.

"In a workshop, they can network with others and learn new skills, new steps. It adds to their knowledge because, for example, if they work for a magazine then they use InDesign only in a specific way."

In the four years since the first InDesign conference was held in the US, word has spread and Edell believes the Melbourne event will be successful. "We're seeing more and more people attending and planning for the conference," she said. "It's the first one in Melbourne and the buzz is there. I hope it's going to be very well attended."

Adobe have been coping some flack lately - in both Australia and overseas after announcing a partnership with FedEx Kinkos. While Edell was unable to comment on this venture, she believes that the conference will reassure users that they have made the right choice in using InDesign.

"There was a lot of fear when people moved from Quark to InDesign," she said. "But when they come and feel the buzz and excitement it legitimises their choice and makes them see that they did the right thing."

"People will get together; it's a great networking opportunity and chance for employees to meet new talents and vice versa, improve their work and maybe even find a new job."
