Perth printer Advance Press has won the prestigious Best of Category Award for its Rio Tinto Diamonds 2015 Calendar at this year’s PICA WA awards.

"It is always a great honour to win Best of Category Award," said Paul Meloncelli, director, Advance Press. "The award is a great testament to all of our hard work throughout the year."

The 38th annual Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICAs) WA – this year held in conjunction with the revamped WA Printers Annual Ball - featured 43 categories that celebrated excellence in the print, packaging, and visual communication industry in Western Australia.

Scott Print and Supa Stik Labels won the FutureNow Commitment to Workforce Development award and Scott Print also picked up the Environment award. Murray Scott from Picton Press won the Media Super Young Executive of the Year award that recognised achievements and leadership qualities of the generation in the industry.

"To be selected by Media Super as the winner of this award for Western Australia, up against many young, innovative and quality members of the printing industry is truly an honour,” said Scott. “The support of Media Super for this award is an investment in the future of our industry and provides an important platform from which young leaders and executives can be heard on both a state and national level."

Printing Industries CEO Jason Allen said hundreds of members and non-members came together, relishing the new event format and making the most of informal networking and social opportunities.

"The new format of the event reflects the changing world of the industry,” said Allen. “We are committed to ensuring the competitiveness, protection and innovation of the industry and we're evolving our events to ensure they appeal to more contestants, sponsors and the wider community. This year marked thirty-eight years of Western Australia supporting the printing industry through these awards. They're a testament to the hard work and dedication to all of the award winners and it is fantastic to see the WA community continuing to lead the industry."

Former Printing Industries WA general manager Paul Nieuwhof, who recently resigned from his role after 17 years, and soon-to-retire Printing Industries PICA WA co-ordinator Lee Shelley both received Printing Industry Recognition Awards.
