Agfa goes three ways
The split – to be completed by the end of the year – will result in the formation of Agfa Graphics, Agfa HealthCare and Agfa Materials. Agfa believes that each of the businesses have the size, strength, industry leadership and organisational talent to succeed in the three markets.
In a statement, Agfa-Gavaert president and ceo Marc Olivié said that, “The creation of three independent, listed companies will give each business the right focus and access to the necessary resources to strengthen their leading positions in their respective markets. This plan is of major importance to the customers, employees and shareholders of Agfa-Gevaert.”
With their headquarters in Mortsel, Belgium, Agfa Graphics, Agfa HealthCare and Agfa Materials have the right to use the Agfa brand name for all activities and products.
Along with other film-based manufacturers Agfa-Gevaert has faced an up-hill battle since the advent of digital technology. The loss of its camera division initiated a radical reappraisal of the company. The new split up makes all three companies susceptible to a takeover bid.
