Another Mark Andy for Wedderburn Labels
One of the first install announcements at PrintEx took place at the Aldus Engineering stand this morning where Wedderburn Labels revealed it had purchased a second Mark Andy flexo performance series press.
The new press, which went on display at Brussels last year, and soon to be installed Sydney label company, is the eighth Mark Andy machine to go in to the business and is the second performance series model to be purchased. The press will be teamed with Wedderburn’s ninth KTI model K turret rewinder.
According to Denis Slater, general manager of Wedderburn’s labels division, the decision to buy a second press was due to increased capacity. “We bought the first performance press in the country eight months ago and extra capacity meant that we needed a second,” he said.

Slater was vocal in his support for choosing flexo over digital, in part owing to the long relationship the company has with Mark Andy and Aldus Engineering, which he liked to a “marriage.”
“In our mind, Mark Andy presses are the Holdens and Falcons of the industry,” he said. “They get us where we want to go, and they get us there safely. Everyone wants to sell us a digital press … we can run tens of thousands of metres through this, which we couldn’t do on a digital press.”
