Aussie label businesses competing on the world stage have bagged a knock-out three wins at the 2013 L9 World Label Awards. Judged at last year's Labelexpo in Brussels, the Label and Tag Manufacturers Association of Australia (LATMA) entered their own national winners in a range of label classes, cleaning up with three golds and two honourable mentions.

The winners will receive their awards at the upcoming LATMA Label Awards and Conference 2014, on April 4th.

The World Label Awards is a global competition, informally founded in 1991 as an annual contest between the European label association FINAT to challenge the American, TLMI. Currently eight international associations compete, including LATMA and SALMA (New Zealand), JFLP (Japan), PEIAC (China), ABIEA (Brazil) and LMAI (India). According to Allan Dabscheck, president of LATMA, this year's winners represent the cream of Australian label converters, all gold winners in the 2013 LATMA Label Awards.

"I believe the quality of the labels we entered was exceptional. If somebody has won gold here, they are the best of our best, and then to go on to the World Label Awards is an incredible achievement. Australia is definitely competing at a world class level, our expectation have definitely been met," said Dabscheck.

Ultra Labels won the Digital Printing - Wine & Spirits category for its work on Ocean View Estate 2012 Luscious Estate, while Collotype Labels Griffth nabbed the Combination - Wine & Spirits win for St Leonards - Wahgunyah, with Queensland converters, Multi-Color, picking up gold for Flexo Colour Process, for Icecream. Wedderburn Labels and Labelworld WA both received honourable mentions in the Flexo Wine & Spirits and Offset Colour Process categories respectively.

Tony White, chairman of the World Label Awards judging panel, said, "This competition serves to show the world the best labels from international associations worldwide. The quality of the submitted labels each year continues to amaze the judges with this year being no exception. The level of technical skill shown by entrants is exceptional."

The Australian winners will receive their awards at the upcoming LATMA Label Awards and Conference 2014, held at the Sebel Harbourside Resort in Kiama on the 4th and 5th of April. As well as recognising these international winners, the event will celebrate the best of the best of Australian labels for 2014. There will also be panel discussions with guest speakers delving into all manner of issues from the importance of good MIS workflow, updates on current employment and IR laws and the latest economic trends.

Back on the international stage, the L9 World Label Awards will be announcing the results of the new category, the Best of the Best, to be presented later this year at Labelexpo in Chicago. The Best of the Best are selected from the 2013 winners within the following categories: flexo, letterpress, offset litho, combination and digital.
