Avon Graphics broadens its finishing offering in Sydney, with the purchase of Gladesville-based Cello Central.

Cello Central's Gladesville-based operations

The move is part of an ongoing strategy to bring new services to Avon customers, and will see the family-run celloglazing business continue to operate for several months, before integrating equipment, staff and customers into Avon Graphics’ Silverwater site.

Tate Hone, sales manager, Avon Graphics, said, “Finishing is a service driven market, and bringing everything in-house will offer more options and possibilities to existing clients, as well as continuing to work closely with Cello Central clients.”

According to Hone, Avon Graphics customers will now benefit from the option to include laminating, foil stamping and embossing all on the one docket. Avon Graphics will also pick up thermal and wet gluing capability.

Cello Central co-founder and managing director, Karl Illek, will continue as laminating manager and operator under the new ownership. Illek intends to remain point of contact for the loyal customer-base the company has built up since it began operating in 2006.

“Nothing will change. They’ll still deal with me, same product, same price, but services will grow overnight. Avon takes on laminating to broaden their range, and will provide an expanded service offering to our customers,” said Illek.

Illek added that a provided pick-up and delivery service should ease the site transition for existing Cello Central customers.

The decision to sell came about as fellow co-founder Peter Jones retired earlier this year.
