Award season brings out best of the best

Print award entries have set new records in the major states with NSW and Victoria recording their largest ever level of submissions.

Entries closed at the end August for the NSW and Victorian awards. The PrintNSW Excellence Awards attracted more than 250 entries and the Victorian Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA) doubled the number of entries from its 2007 event to 340 this year.

Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia/Northern Territory also attracted record entries for their events held during August.

Printing Industries' national communications and technical services manager, Joe Kowalewski, said that the outstanding response was indicative of the level of industry support for the new award format that has seen the National Print Awards (NPA) adopt a greater value and prestige as a best of the best competition with no direct entry. Entry is only possible by winning a Gold award in the State competitions.

"We still need to encourage companies to plan their entries during the year minimising the last minute avalanche of entries, but this response is excellent," he said.

"As with the award events held last month, the standard of entries is trending very high with more individual submisions from a wider range of printing companies participating in the state competitions."

Entries for the Queensland PICA competition close on 19 September and the ACT PAGE Awards 17 October.
