Awards #2 – Moore apprenticeship scheme wins national recognition

Left to Right in order: Steve Hossack, Keith Cooke, Brett Oliver of Moore Wodonga, Michael Toner (NAC Representative - VECCI) and Minister for Education, Science and Training Dr Brendan Nelson MP

22 Australian employers were recognised for their commitment to the New Apprenticeships Programme. The Awards recognise best practice approaches and the employers’ efforts to utilise New Apprenticeships to build their businesses and support training and career opportunities in their local communities.

The award is a first for Moore and Paul Leonard CEO made a point of including all the personnel at the company’s Wodonga plant in his praise. “Keith, Pat McGilly and the staff at Wodonga should be applauded for their efforts in implementing and running the programme. The efforts of Don Stewart from Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE should also be recognised because without his support the programme would have not succeeded,” said Leonard.

"The key aspects of the award were the planned approach in the support of the apprentices in the workplace, a high degree of flexibility and innovation in the delivery of the workplace training and the success of the new apprenticeship programme. These key aspects are best highlighted by the 80% who successfully complete their apprenticeship," he said.

"The apprentices’ scheme performs well above the levels shown by other employers and will ensure we have a well-trained, multi-skilled workforce as we again provide a leadership role to the Printing Industry."
