Teakle (pictured) purchased Colloytpe Labels – a wine and spirit label design and production company –in 1986 when it employed just 50 staff and annual sales were at $3 million.

Under his direction, growth has been exponential. Collotype Labels now has a turnover over of $73 million and employs 338 staff across the globe. The national market leader in its field, Collotype Labels claims 55 per cent of the Australian market as well as servicing markets in New Zealand, Chile, the US and South Africa. Teakle was named entrepreneur of the year in the services category.

Ernst & Young South Australian Managing Partner, Mr Tony Smith, said the quality of entrants was outstanding.

“South Australia has a diverse range of entrepreneurial talent and one can’t help but be inspired by this outstanding group of individuals who have displayed such vision, determination and leadership,” Smith said.

A panel of independent judges comprising leading figures from the state’s business community selected the winners on several criteria: entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, financial performance, strategic direction, personal integrity/influence and national/global impact.

Teakle and the other five Central Region winners will now go on to compete against the winners from four other regions for the national title on December 2. The national winner will then represent Australia at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo in 2005.
