Blue Star gets across the spectrum of print in NZ
Michael Becconsall’s Spectrum Print is the latest takeover by the ever-growing printing giant.
The Christchurch-based company, which has a take-over history itself, is a solid strategic prize for Blue Star, proving the credit crunch has not dampened its appetite for acquisitions. It brings to seven the number of individually branded sheetfed printing operations under the BSPG ownership in New Zealand and comes hard on the heels of its takeover of Auckland-based Panprint last month.
It confirms with the company’s expressed intention of having a fully regional presence throughout New Zealand. Backed by its major investor CHAMP Private Equity, Blue Star is proving to be the leader in consolidating the industry on both sides of the Tasman – and it’s not finished yet.
According to Glen Climo, ceo of Blue Star Print NZ, the company will “continue to seek out acquisitions that strengthen our customer relationships and broaden our service capabilities, including suitable printing and/or mailing businesses.”
In a press statement he said the Spectrum Print will continue to operate in its current form with all members of the senior management team having entered long-term employment agreements. He described the Spectrum acquisition as “part of a cohesive strategy, based on acquisitions, capital investment, people and innovation.”
