Packaging and label equipment manufacturer Bobst has held a two-day open house to show off its latest innovations in gravure printing technology.

The event, titled “Extending the scope, new technologies for gravure”, was held from May 11-12 at Bobst Italia, in San Giorgio Monferrato, Italy, and included numerous demonstrations of gear including the RS 6003C HS gravure press, the CL 850D laminator, and the RS 6002C shaftless gravure press, presented last year at drupa.

Michele Vitiello, managing director of Bobst Italia, said the event had received great feedback from guests. “We had great information to share and created a spectacular show to tell our story. The event was a big success in two ways that make us proud: the success achieved from the point of view of the event content, showcasing the quality of the innovations presented and the success of the event format that we chose to convey the information to the participating audience," Vitiello said.

180 guests, including 150 converters from around the world, attended the open house and accompanying forums. “We are happy to have showed our customers how technological excellence continues to thrive at BOBST but also to see how our know-how, experience and commitment to our corporate values, are instrumental in sustaining their loyalty," Vitiello said.

Gravure is not a common process for Australian printers, and stand-alone gravure printing houses are even rarer, says Ali Quaintance, national marketing and communications manager at Printing Industries. "There’s only a handful of gravure printers in Australia – it’s a highly specialised field for the production of high-quality images. Most gravure printers also employ other processes," she said.

Based in Switzerland, Bobst is one of the world’s leading suppliers of equipment and services to packaging and label manufacturers in the folding carton, corrugated board and flexible materials industries, according to the company's press release.
