Breakthrough iCtp system for BR Printing
Melbourne business, BR Printing, installs the country’s first PlateWriter 2400 iCtp system from Australian Graphic Servicing.
The offset printer, which has been servicing Melbourne clients for more than 45 years with its Heidelberg presses, was previously using an imagesetter, which manager, Ken Pooley, found was not up to scratch.
“Continuous little problems with each unit were becoming frustrating so we looked at the iCtp system from AGS,” he said.
The system uses the same aluminium plate as standard conventional and CtP, without the sensitised coating. Advanced inkjet technology jets a patented liquid dot formulation onto the plate to add he areas users want to be imaged on the printing press. The plate then passes through the iCtP finishing unit to bond the image to the plate.

According to Ross Gilberthorpe of AGS, there will be a strong demand for the iCtp system in Australia. “I have seen a real need for quite a long time now for an affordable system to suit the small-to-medium printer and BR Printing is an ideal location for our first installation,” he said.
“Ken has been very good to us in letting our potential customers come and see the system in operation, there is no better reference than that of a customer using the system.”
Pooley looks forward to the improvements the system will offer to his business. “We print all kinds of things from single to four-colour jobs as well as labels, with the volume of plates we do and the quick turnaround we need to provide our customers the iCtp is ideal for our company,” he said.
