Cadillac Printing drives forward with Sustainable Green Print 2
Cadillac continues to cut back on waste with new SGP 2 accreditation.
The Adelaide-based heatset web printer ventured onto the path of SGP standards through Printing Industries eight months ago. According to Trevor Stone, quality and environment manager, progressing from SGP1 to SGP2 has given the company a competitive edge.
“During this journey, we have learnt to reduce our landfill substantially by better separation of waste and the use of readily available recycling companies to fully understand what our impact is – and could be – on the environment,” he said.

The process has been an eye-opener for the company. “At the beginning of the SGP path, we believed our recycling and waste was under control and would only need minor improvements,” Stone recalled.
“But when the step-by-step task was undertaken, we quickly came to realise there were many improvements, which equates to less waste generation, less landfill, and better ways to protect our environment.”
Three main targets have been established for Cadillac Printing: a reduction in waste paper from 12 to 10 percent; a reduction in landfill and to complete procedures to avoid any environmental issues and procedures to reduce the impact in the event the issue may occur. “These targets were chosen due to being the most controllable by the business and its employees,” Stone added.
Printing may be a competitive business, but Stone is happy for others to follow suit and get involved in SGP. “Our policies and manuals are open for other companies to benchmark against and we are proud to discuss our achievements with those interested,” he said.
