Cadillac sets an environmental benchmark

South Australian company Cadillac Printing has created a new benchmark by successfully completing all levels of Sustainable Green Print (SGP) and achieving ISO14001 environmental certification in 14 months.

The second company in Australia to successfully complete the Printing Industries SGP Level 1 certification program in February 2010 Cadillac set its sights on quickly completing all SGP certification levels.

Having completed its Level 2 training by July 2010, and successfully passing its audit it immediately began working towards a Level 3 certification.

This was achieved in May 2011. Cadillac also opted to go a step further by applying for ISO14001 audit certification on the back of its ISO based SGP Level 3, achieving this shortly afterwards.

Trevor Stone, plant manager for Cadillac managed the process and said it was made easier by having the full support of staff. “From the day Cadillac commenced the SGP program all the staff have been eagerly involved.”

“The realisation of making a difference to the environment was enough of a goal to drive the challenge along. Now, less than 12 months since achieving SGP Level 2, we can proudly say we are SGP3 and ISO 14001 certified, which is fantastic achievement by everyone involved.

“The benefits of the investment have already been substantial, from cost reduction through to risk identifications to protect the business and the environment,” said Stone.

Bill Healey, CEO of Printing Industries said Cadillac Printing’s commitment to the Association’s SGP program was an outstanding example of what could be achieved.

“Cadillac’s management and staff are to be congratulated on this achievement which has demonstrated the important role of SGP in delivering tangible benefits to the company’s bottom line as well meeting the environmental expectations of customers,” he said.

“Cadillac now have a system in place that will allow them to manage environmental performance at the highest of levels while at the same time have created a competitive advantage for their business.

‘I encourage all printing companies to show this commitment and to set their own benchmark which positively contributes to the viability and profitability of their business by demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Healey.
