Centrum Printing pushes ahead on path to green growth
Sydney printer’s environmental push gains traction with recent ISO14001 certification.
The Mascot-based printer, specialising in publication and journal work, has been busy working on more sustainable ways of operating its business since receiving Truly Green certification from GASAA last year. Receiving ISO14001 certification is the latest development.
General manager, Sandra Mascaro, told Print21 that it is part of the company’s ongoing improvement scheme. “We need to be doing something more for the environment,” she said. “There are also some commercial benefits – our clients are much more environmentally aware; they want to deal with someone who is aware of this.”

The process was challenging, but well worth the efforts. “It was a big learning curb for us all,” Mascaro said. “It was very interesting and helped us to look at things in a lot more detail: we already use soy-based ink, now getting into recycling more and lowering alcohol levels.”
She lists a number of benefits to being ISO accredited. “It’s increased our productivity and efficiency daily. This is a standard thing that is required now, most companies are ISO accredited – it’s truly the way forward.”
Next on the agenda is achieving FSC and PFC accreditation.
Last month, Centrum also got involved with Planet Ark's National Tree Day where the management and staff spent the day at Sydney Park planting trees.
