City Snap runs Fuji Xerox digital hub to keep up with demand
It’s said that city living is just that little bit more hectic – and when it comes to city printing, the same adage can apply. Michael Palmer, Managing Director of CBD Printing, (pictured leading his enthusiastic team) a business that owns three Snap Printing franchises in Sydney city, can certainly vouch for that. In response to changing market demands, Palmer recently removed all the offset equipment from his Castlereagh and O’Connell Street stores, consolidating the two into a digital-only store and production hub.
For black and white, the new Snap CBD digital hub has installed two new Nuvera 120 copier printers, replacing a DocuTech 135 and two Océ 3165s. For digital colour production printing the hub relies on a Xerox DocuColor 2060 and a DocuColor 6060.
“Over the years we have been monitoring a trend towards needing a digital hub in the city. Now we have taken the step, the results have been very successful. We’ve seen growth in rapid turnaround, black and white and colour digital print for the banking and finance industry, our primary customers. The traditional offset market is decreasing and the short run digital is growing very quickly,” said Palmer.
The digital work being printed includes training materials, short-run booklets, quarterly reports, informational memorandums, and traditional marketing materials such as brochures. The CBD franchises have sales teams of four, plus an active marketing program, ensuring the work keeps flowing.
“The demand for print at speed is definitely increasing, which is where digital print is ideal. The Snap franchise we own at Gordon has certainly noticed a growth in the demand for digital print and the CBD market we service is more sophisticated when it comes to looking for a more dynamic response to print needs,” said Palmer.
Palmer added that personalised print jobs were also coming through the door: “I don’t think it is growing as fast as the market expected but we certainly do carry out some print work requiring simple personalisation. From our perspective, the market still has to learn the benefits and value of personalisation in regards to response and retention, and the cost associated with that extra value.”
Palmer is also committed to opening two more Snap centres in the CBD in the near future:
“The O’Connell street centre will be the digital hub for these outlets, the other two will focus on different areas, including graphic design. As a print business I feel we will secure more of our customers via graphic design – those that see we have the capability will use it, we then retain print files, making repeat ordering far easier, so the client tends to stay loyal to you.”
