She will take on the role of general manager and vice president of workflow and prepress at the Graphic Solutions and Services (GS&S) unit of Kodak's Graphic Communications Group (GCG). Reporting to GS&S president and chief operating officer of GCG Jeff Jacobson, she will be responsible for Kodak CTP, workflow and proofing products.

In other announcements KPG vice president of research and development Doug Edwards becomes general manager and vice president of consumables. Former NexPress president and chief executive Venkat Purushotham is general manager and vice president of digital printing.

Closer to home, Johan Laubscher has been recruited to join the team at Hurst Australia as national sales development manager. This means that Kel Drewett, who has only been with the company a short time, moves up to take on the role of national business manager. It’s all part of a thrust for growth by the chemical company ahead of the launch of a new chemistry from Druck Chemie of Europe. Competition in the graphics chemical sector is expected to heat up as the new boys get stuck in.

The hospitality is likely to flow even more freely at the IPEX 06 with the announcement that the paper industry is to have its own sector at the Birmingham show next year. Paper companies are famous, or notorious depending on your view, for turning on the hospitality at shows as soon as the doors open. There’s not too much you can do to display paper, so the companies have found that having a well-stocked bar is essential to keep their customer’s attention.
Thank heavens no major Australian paper company has a presence at PacPrint 05.

The 1,000th Heidelberg Prosetter has recently been installed at a printing company in Dallas, Texas. It’s a pretty impressive rate of sales since the company launched its own platesetter just before drupa last. The Dallas machine is a Prosetter 74. The drive toward CTP is still powering along in the small to medium size companies. All the large companies have already made the move.

It may be about to be subsumed by Kodak but Creo is still winning accolades. For the second year running it has been named Software Partner of the Year by Xerox. Creo makes the top end Spire colour servers for the DocuColor and iGen3 range of digital presses.

Does this mean Kodak is in with a chance to be the winning Xerox Partner next year?
