Clegg Media goes wide with Grand Sherpa purchase

The contract for the new Grand Sherpa 87 Universal printer was completed at the Visual Impact/Image Expo in Sydney earlier this year, and is being used primarily by Clegg Media for producing high resolution work on a variety of media, including self-adhesives, canvas and vinyl.

Clegg Media is a sign-and-display business that specialises in outdoor advertising and point-of-sale displays, performing jobs like bus shelter signage, billboard and bus and tram panels. Colin Clegg, proprietor at Clegg Media, claims the company was impressed with the printer’s output capabilities.

“The other thing about it is that there are not many fumes associated with its operation. Some of the other printers can get quite smelly,” he says.

Clegg also claims it was the support and service provided by Philip Burrell, from Cyrachrome’s Brisbane office, that proved to the key factor in helping seal the deal. “We’ve known the people at CyraChrome for a period of time and feel very comfortable doing business with them,” he claims.

The Grand Sherpa 87 Universal printer is amongst the largest models in its range, capable of printing on media widths up to up to 2286mm wide. Print resolution is variable from 360 dpi to 720 dpi up to 1440 dpi with a top speed of 40 square metres an hour.

The printer installed at Clegg Media is currently using Agfa’s Eco-Solvent Plus inks, but the company is planning on moving over to Agfa’s new Grand Sherpa Universal AM inks once they are made available. The new AM inks provide improved colour saturation on a wide range of coated and uncoated media including vinyl, PVC banners, photo papers and art canvases.

The fast drying and uniform gloss coverage ensures high quality results even at the highest printing speeds. As with the Eco-Solvent Plus inks, the new inks do not require any special ventilation requirements.

Agfa’s Grand Sherpa Universal printer is one of the several digital wide format printers in CyraChrome’s product portfolio, which also includes the Octopus range of UV printers from Grapo. Both Agfa and Grapo’s hardware was demonstrated at the Visual Impact/Image Expo earlier this year, along with the new Epson Pro Stylus 9800 inkjet printer.
