CMYKhub doubles down on digital

A surprise surge in digital volumes and high praise for print quality has prompted CMYKhub to add a second HP Indigo to their Melbourne facility.

The new HP Indigo 7600 follows CMYKhub’s first date with digital last year, which saw the installation of an Indigo 5600 in a brand-new all-digital plant opposite its Heidelberg West site, that has since gone on to exceed expectations on all fronts.

Trent Nankervis, managing director, CMYKhub Victoria, explained the upgrade: “It’s a reaction to increased demand; we needed a workhorse. The first was a toe in the water, but we didn’t think it would be as popular as it is. Now we’re looking at more than double the output of the 5600.”

According the Nankervis the expanded digital workload has been transferred over to the Indigo 7600, leaving the 5600 free to act as general back-up and to run different specialty jobs, synthetics and white inks.

“We’ve found HP provided very good support, especially for our transition to digital. As volume built up, it was a straightforward decision to stick with the brand, and just upscale the capacity,” he said.

Among its many qualities, Indigo’s compatibility with an extensive range of substrates proved a major draw for the team at CMYKhub, with Nankervis quick to praise the machine’s versatility and ability to deliver print quality in the offset range.

“There’s no dry toner on the page, and no cracking. We are able to easily shift a job between offset and digital, to maximise print runs and meet demands.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of HP’s most famous press, since its industry debut at Ipex in 1993, and CMYKhub is quick to cite the Indigo’s ongoing performance and popularity with clients as key to their decision to reinvest with the technology and innovation giant.
