Colorpak gains ISO14001 certification
Specialist folding cartons business, Colorpak, adds IS014001 certification to its environmental package.
IS014001 is the international Environmental Management Standard (EMS) for organisations engaged in manufacturing and services and follows the company’s Chain of Custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes.
Alex Commins, managing director of the company, described the process as long and difficult at times, but ultimately worth the effort.
“We have worked on this for 12 months and we were delighted to be advised by the independent auditors, Lloyds of London, that we had met all the criteria,” Commins said.
He explained that Colorpak chose to use Lloyds of London as these were the same auditors that granted the company ISO 9001 certification in 1994.
“It just seemed logical to use them again,” Commins added.
According to Steven Davies, (pictured) national quality assurance and environment manager at Colorpak, receiving this certification proves that the company has met its obligations to international standards.

Davies listed a number of environmental initiatives including waterless printing technologies, a waste management and recycling program and harvesting rainwater for use in toilets.
For Commins, it is highly satisfying for his company to have reached this position.
“We set a goal to be certified at the start of 2008, and it’s great that we have now achieved it,” he said.
