Brisbane printers Colour Chiefs and Platypus Graphics dominated the printing categories at the 23rd annual Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA) in Queensland.
Colour Chiefs won four golds and two silver medals in the printing section while Platypus picked up three gold medals, two silver and one bronze. Colour Chiefs also won another three gold medals and a silver in the design categories.
The awards ceremony at the Pullman Hotel in Brisbane preceded the Legends Gala dinner formally opened by Printing Industries CEO, Andrew Macaulay, who told the crowd it was “a night to celebrate print and the people of the industry.” In line with the legends theme, Konica Minolta printed 3D replicas of the original Gutenberg Printing Press as a centre piece for each of the dinner tables.
The Legends winners were Ken Doggett of KW Doggett Fine Paper, and Peter Carmody of Spot Productions. They were nominated for ‘over 40 years of mentoring and contribution to the industry’ and were each presented with a Legends Trophy.
Susan Heaney received the Women in Print Legend Award for her ‘significant contribution to the industry.’
