Complete Colour goes greener with EMS certification
Green printing company, Complete Colour, Melbourne, adds another notch to its belt by receiving ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System (EMS).
The move towards EMS certification was a response to he increasing demand of for environmental credentials from large-scale print buyers, according to general manager, Geoff Lawyer.
"It's a positive that our clients are asking for hard proof that we are walking the talk," he said. "The market is being flooded with unsubstantiated environmental claims and we are happy that our commitment is now confirmed and audited from a globally recognised external framework."
Major components of the EMS initiative include the introduction of a nine-person environmental committee in 2007; the formalisation of a responsible paper purchasing policy; EMS training for all Complete Colour staff and the elimination of the use of isopropyl alcohol on larger presses.

Managing director, Tim Michaelides, said that adopting EMS would have beneficial flow-on effects throughout the workplace. "All of the components of our EMS create a positive effect on our surrounding environment and company culture," he said. "Some even provide monetary benefits, confirming that it makes good business sense to consider making responsible business choices."
