Cost pressure prompts price rise from Spicers Paper NZ

Spicers Paper forced to increase prices from 7.5 to 10 per cent as of 17 November.

According to Andy Preece, general manager of Spicers Paper, 2008 has proven a difficult year for most businesses which have been impacted by input costs.

“Paper and board are certainly not insulated from this and as at other periods in the year to date, the effects felt in merchanting from a compounded recipe of weak New Zealand dollar  and mill-driven increases are delivering net cost increases for many commodities in excess of 30 per cent,” he said.

As a result, Price said that Spicers Paper had no other option but to increase the selling price of all grades in order to compete with these trying conditions. “Such levels simply cannot be absorbed,” he said.
