CPI defines its flagship paper – Silk-hd

David Bull gets on the front foot to launch what he is calling “the most complete coated paper ever.”

Paper merchant, CPI, is in the middle of a major revamp of Silk, the well-known A2+ coated paper from Oji mill in Japan. From now on the entire range will be known as Silk-hd (high definition) which is suitable for printers, agencies, designers and corporates. While emphasising the grade’s unparralled versatility, Bull, the well-known sales and marketing director of CPI Group, is keen to tell printers that the paper is in a class of its own.

“No other paper has such a wide range of grades and utility. It is the complete A2+ paper, suitable for every printer who wants reliability and consistency no matter what,” said Bull.

The promotion of Silk-hd, which is CPI Group’s most important launch of the year, involves the production of a singular swatch book printed by McKellar Renown in Melbourne. The 28-page swatch with its theme of chewing gum, is produced to the highest production values. To demonstrate the versatility of the paper, it features examples of Silk-hd from the 350gsm gloss cover stock printed with stochastic screening on a Heidelberg press to 170gsm matt digitally imaged on a HP Indigo 7000 - the digital printing was done by PMI.
Spot and satin varnishes, Pantone colours and 175 line screen printing – three different offset printing techniques – all contribute to present a gallery of high-end graphic arts production. In addition, Silk-hd is Carbon Neutral with FSC certification.
“Silk-hd has a superior surface for print, ink lift and feeling,” said Bull. “It will bring new life to one of the industry’s traditional favourite papers.”

The Silkl-hd promotion is a parting gift to CPI from Herbert Eibach, marketing manager, who is heading off to greener pastures.
