Cryer clan take the cake at Avery Dennison 75-year bash

The Cryer connection continued at Avery Dennison’s 75-year celebrations as recruitment identity and Print21 columnist, James along with his wife, Evlyn, were called upon to help cut the cake.

The company recently celebrated its birthday at the Australian head office in Oakleigh South, Victoria, where the warehouse was transformed into a showcase of Avery Dennison’s products and technologies.

David Martin, vice president and general manager materials ANZ and South Africa recounted Avery’s humble beginnings in 1935 when R. Stanton Avery borrowed $100 from his fiancé to start a small labelling business in a rented loft space, to its growth as a global labelling and packaging solutions company.

It wasn’t the first time that James Cryer of JDA Print Recruitment had been to such a celebration: not only had he attended Avery Dennison’s 50-year celebrations in Pasadena, Los Angeles, but his father, the late W.J. Cryer had even attended the 25-year celebrations overseas.

When David Martin realised the history that JDA and Avery shared, he called upon Cryer and his wife, Evlyn, to cut the cake. “David paid thanks to my father in the speech and I was touched that he made that recognition,” Cryer said.

“I took as a compliment to my father’s efforts when he met with Stan Avery and the two forged a significant relationship.”

Congratulations to Avery Dennison. May there be many more celebrations to come.
