Current Images reports an excellent drupa
The new HP Indigo 5000 proved to be the star of the show for Currie Group’s digital division, Current Images. According to Phillip Rennell, general manager, (pictured) there was widespread interest from the many Australian and New Zealand industry professional at the HP stand at drupa
“What was really good this time around, is that no one was querying the technology, everyone knows it works. Now they are figuring out what to buy. I’ll be on the road for weeks after this following up leads in Australia and New Zealand,” he said. He reported serious sales being made off the stand, not least a 5000 to David Minnett of Momentum as reported in the first week of the show. (type ‘Momentum in Archive Search.)
The HP stand proved to be one of the most popular at the show with good business being done across the complete range of Indigo presses.
“We’re riding a wave of interest just at the moment” said Michael Mogridge, Asia Pacific manager HP Indigo. “There is a phenomenal amount of activity and we broke budget on this drupa. The HP Indigo technology is now being recognised as the superior digital imaging system.”
The whole team from Currie & Company had a jam-packed programme at drupa. Just getting around to say ‘Hi!’ to the list of leading industry brand holders and to escort local customers to see the latest technology available was a full time job. The Currie portfolio includes HP Indigo, ECRM, Horizon, Shinohara, Agfa to name but a few.

Steve Dunwell, NSW manager and Phillip Rennell held the fort for the first part of the show. Later on (pictured left to right) David Currie, Andrew Matthews, Currie & Companynational consumables manager and Richard Watson, ECRM Asia Pacific manager, as well as Bernie Robinson, general manager, Currie & Company, joined the fray.
At the Horizon stand much of the attention was directed away, towards where Xerox was using the ColorWorks 2000 BookletMaker at the back of its engines to produce full-colour, bleed-trimmed booklets.
At ECRM a constant stream of keen-eyed prospective purchasers put the Mako 4 and Mako 8 CTP engines through their paces, while over in Hall 6, Print City, Shinohara had just one press from their impressive range on display, but what a press – a prototype of the 52 Uno, sealed pushbutton offset printing style, drew many curious stares.
