Currie Group moves into new headquarters
State of the art premises for the largest privately-owned graphic arts supplier adds a new dimension to the industry’s Melbourne infrastructure.
The purpose-built facility is just around the corner from the previous building, but it’s light years ahead in terms of technology and sophistication. An intensely personal vision from David Currie resulted in a very proactive approach to the construction, which incorporates the latest in communication and networking technology.
“We were very hands on in the design process and after an intense 12 months of effort the building was complete. Now that we’re settled it feels as if we’ve always been here, but like any big leap forward, we quickly forget the sheer hard work that went into taking that first small step,” wrote David Currie in the company’s newsletter, Current Images.
Built to provide a foundation for expansion in the years ahead, the Guest Street, Hawthorn building is a milestone in the progress of the family-owned company. It follows the consolidation of the company’s subsidiaries – Currie & Company, AM International and Current Images – under the Currie Group banner.
The new building has two showrooms, one for offset and the other to highlight digital printing. Industry events are planned as a regular feature of the facility, which has extensive basement car parking. Following on Currie’s industry experience the statistics of the building reveal an intimate knowledge of the requirements for a modern graphic arts showcase. The floor is a polished concrete slab that is structurally designed to accommodate the display of printing equipment. Slab band beam thicknesses of 500 mm allow the unloading of a semi-trailer with a 20 tonne crane, enough for the largest press.
Now a full service supplier, Currie Group, boasts a line-up of leading brands that cover everything from prepress, offset printing and finishing, to the latest in digital printing through its HP Indigo agency. Shinohara presses and Horizon finishing equipment, ECRM prepress and T&K inks, are just some of the product lines that have helped make Currie Group a by-word in graphics supply throughout Australia.

Taking the show on the road
In addition to the new showcase in Melbourne Currie Group’s tireless mobile showroom, Colour Express, is presently in Brisbane preparing for a trip to the tropics. The brightly coloured pantech, piloted by events organiser, Glenn Dunnet and pack full of the latest high technology graphic arts equipment is about to commence a tour of far north Queensland.
Continuing Currie Group’s commitment to bring the latest in digital and offset equipment to the regions, Colour Express will be at:
