CyraChrome introduces new Color Tuner 5.1
CyraChrome introduces the latest version of the industry-leading contract proofing system with powerful new soft proofing capabilities.
The latest version of the popular contract proofing system, ORIS Color Tuner, has been released by developers, CGS Publishing Technologies International. Version 5.1 for Windows, which is available through the local CGS agent, CyraChrome, adds significant value to an already powerful contract proofing solution. The new Mac OS Personal Edition, also released by CGS in March, has been well received by agencies, design workgroups and remote proofing environments.
Version 5.1 introduces a valuable new capability for publishers and advertisers: ORIS Soft Proof. The optional module creates view-ready PDF/X-3 files, using the same colour management engine that creates the contract ORIS proof. Colour verification is handled by an ORIS plugin for Acrobat, and the user may output a hard copy proof at any time.
The benefits of the 5.1 upgrade include significant performance improvements, including a faster RIP/print process and even greater accuracy from Color Tuner’s powerful automatic colour match and calibration processes. Installation and proofer set-up has been made easier with new software wizards, and the product now supports Hexachrome proofing, support for ICCv4 profiles, and improved support for PDF/X.
“This new version is being released just in time for PacPrint05 and I would invite anybody with an interest in colour proofing to visit stand 839 to check out the latest features,” said Michael Laird, CyraChrome managing director (pictured). “Version 5.1 represents a significant upgrade to Color Tuner’s capabilities and, combined with the new Soft Proof option, provides today’s colour professionals with a complete contract proofing system for both hard and soft copy output.”
More than a proofing system: Color Tuner PLUS!
In addition to core feature enhancements and soft proofing, Color Tuner 5.1 also marks the debut of several expanded workflow options, adding unique functionality to existing proofing operations. The ORIS Normalizer option will let users convert files from all major digital formats, and deliver print-ready, high-resolution files to virtually any RIP or output device. With ORIS Press Matcher, multiple files can be converted to multiple press conditions, without manual editing or loss of colour fidelity. For large print operations, the ORIS Ink Saver option also applies GCR/UCR to the finished files, reducing ink consumption.
“Color Tuner has always excelled as a reliable contract proofing standard,” said CGS president Trevor Haworth. “With 5.1, however, the true breadth of the ORIS product line is clear. ORIS is much more than a proofing RIP; it’s a full colour management workflow.”
Contract proofing on the Mac
The Windows update closely follows the debut of ORIS Color Tuner 5.1 Personal Edition for Mac OS X. Designed for agencies, design studios and other Mac-based workgroups, the Mac version brings professional, contract quality proofing to the creative process. Users can easily install and set up a desktop proofer, such as the Epson Stylus Pro 4000, using simple software wizards. The system uses ICC-based colour management, as well as Automatic Color Matching data from ORIS Color Tuner Pro, to create high-end proofs on CGS media. The Mac version can be used as a standalone proofing system, or as part of a remote proofing network.
Other improvements
In addition to contract proofing on inkjet devices, ORIS Color Tuner 5.1 provides enhanced support for toner-based devices. Using ORIS LaserProof paper, an ORIS-driven device is now capable of producing high-quality interim or “comp” output, as well as colour managed print production, using version 5.1’s new duplexing capability.
Previously, automatic colour matching and calibration has been done, with great success, using the Gretag-Macbeth iCColor spectrophotometer. Version 5.1 now does this directly with the Eye-One, as well as the X-Rite DTP-41, DTP-45 and the new DTP-70.
