Digital asset management under the spotlight

DAM (Digital Asset Management) is the systematic cataloguing and management of digital rich media (text, images, video and audio) so they can be reused and/or re expressed at a later time for a client.

Insufficient knowledge and experience is a major inhibitor to developing commercial services around DAM, with the three-day Digital Asset Management Conference (DAMAP) aiming is to address this problem from 27-29 August at the Four Points Sheraton, Sydney.

The conference is the first of its kind in Australia with six international and 21 local speakers set to discuss a range of issues including intellectual property rights, e-commerce and workflow management.

Joe Kowalewski, national director of marketing & media services for Printing Industries, says that by effectively using DAM a company can dramatically improve profits by reducing costs, decreasing time to market, increasing revenue and creating a reliable shared-repository of digital assets.

“Of course you need to understand all the options, select the most appropriate solutions and make sure that the implementation and management of these systems is up to date in what is a very rapidly evolving environment,” he says.

“Because digital asset management represents a new and rapidly growing field, case studies and discussion on emerging trends, issues and challenges facing the industry will be presented, allowing delegates to clearly identify what action needs to be taken within the industry.”

Kowalewski claims that while many printing industry companies try to come up with new competitive advantage or value-add services, digital asset management is often ignored. Ironically these same companies provide the service in its most basic form every day each time they accept a print job.

Printing Industries has negotiated a major conference fee saving for members attending this years Digital Asset Management Conference (DAMAP) in Sydney. Members can save 50 per cent off the standard registration fee, and have until Friday 28 July to take advantage of this offer.

“I encourage members to take the time to explore DAM and to attend the conference for a fuller understanding of the opportunity and what is involved. We have negotiated a $1,375 saving for members off the full registration fee, which makes the conference a very attractive investment,” says Kowalewski.

Keynote speakers at the 2006 conference will include Jennifer Neumann, CEO of Canton Inc; Paul Twomey, co founder of Argo P@cific; Richard Metcalf, vice president of Digital Content Services, Savvis Inc and Craig Rispin.

Among the key sponsors of the event are Digital Quay and DataBasics, the two companies specialise in providing digital solutions consultancy and technology for the printing industry.
